The victims cum survivors of TS Sendong have now finally been relocated to their new addresses. Some families were relocated in Lumbia, in the hectares of land donated by Xavier University, and they called the new community as Xavier Ecoville. Well, it is quite better than living in a tent, or not having a house to live in. Most of them who moved there are quite happy about the move. They and their belongings now have a place to call their own. Good for them. Meanwhile, families are continuously being relocated at the tent city or that Shelter Box Community in Calaanan this city. While my family is also a victim of Sendong, we are not qualified for the said relocation as our house have just been partially damaged. Although we are no longer going back there, it is still quite painful to say the least, that we didn’t get a single centavo from the government when my family have religiously conformed to law and paid taxes without fail. We have received financial help from our families, relatives and friends, and we are not only going to use them to buy Latex mattress or spend for a new memory foam mattress and a new bed, or buy new things. They wouldn’t last long. Surely the government should be fair in their dealings among its people. People like us, although we have jobs and salaries, need help too, to rebuild what TS Sendong has taken away. I wonder why taxpayers are being forgotten in times of distress…
